Zásilkovna Launches Delivery to Car Trunks
“With the launch of the delivery to trunk service, Zásilkovna fulfils another of its promises and increases the convenience of delivery for its customers. We have been developing and testing the technology solution for several months in cooperation with ŠKODA AUTO and now we can offer our customers another way to have their parcel delivered. This confirms in practice our philosophy of bringing our clients new and unique products and services that are changing the logistics market. Zásilkovna wants to be a technological leader in its field, so we like to be the first to try new technologies. After delivery to Z-Boxes, delivery to the trunk of a car is another way to use the Internet of things in logistics,” says Simona Kijonková, founder of Zásilkovna and CEO of Packeta Group.
“Thanks to the Access to Car solution, the vehicle ŠKODA provides a quality service to its owner even when it is just parked and would not normally provide any added value. With this service, we are expanding our range of mobility solutions and offering customers time savings, convenience and in many ways making their daily lives easier. For example, we will enable them to benefit from delivery of parcels while they are at work, eliminating the time they would otherwise spend waiting for a courier. Only the courier of the chosen delivery service has access to the required vehicle data, and the delivery is also contactless, which is undoubtedly an undeniable advantage these days,” says Martin Jahn, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at ŠKODA AUTO.
How Does the Service Work?
When ordering via the web or mobile app, the customer first orders the parcel delivery to an address and can then redirect the delivery to his/her ŠKODA using a simple online form. This is sent to the customer through a link in the standard notification email when Zásilkovna physically takes over the parcel for shipping. In the form, the customer selects the time frame and the approximate address where the vehicle will be parked, and then confirms everything by logging into his/her ŠKODA Connect account. The Zásilkovna driver can then send a request for the exact location of the customer’s vehicle at the given time. When the driver arrives in the immediate proximity, verified by GPS technology, he/she can request unlocking of the vehicle for the delivery of the parcel.
The driver locates and unlocks the vehicle using an app on his/her phone. No interaction between the customer and the driver is required during the delivery itself. The driver can only unlock the car once within a customer-approved time window and only leaves the vehicle when it is fully locked. The customer can track individual orders and their delivery status via the MyŠKODA app.
A significant benefit of the new delivery to trunk service for the end customer is also the extensive network of more than 5,400 pick-up points of Zásilkovna. In case that it will not be possible to deliver the parcel to the trunk of the car, the driver will deposit the parcel at the nearest suitable pick-up point and the customer still has the option of picking up the parcel the same day.
The Zásilkovna Car Delivery service is available for all ŠKODA vehicles manufactured from January 2019 onwards and equipped with the package Care Connect: Remote Access, with the exception of the vehicles ENYAQ iV, KAMIQ and SCALA, for which the service will be available at a later date. As part of this package, the customer must have the “Remote Locking/Unlocking of Vehicle” function activated.
Delivery to the trunk of the car is still in pilot mode and is possible in Prague and the surrounding area. The vehicle must be parked in a publicly accessible location and cannot be hidden from mobile signal (e.g. in an underground garage) in order to unlock it.
