Service restrictions due to extreme weather in Central Europe
Respected clients, due to recent extreme weather in Central Europe, several countries are facing severe environmental consequences. In Czechia, we are still experiencing heavy rainfall, serious flooding, and the associated complicated traffic situation in certain regions. Other areas in neighboring coutries, specifically Austria, Eastern Germany, Western Slovakia, Southern Poland, and Romania were also affected by these extreme weather conditions. Despite our best efforts, delays in parcel delivery might occur.
All colleagues at depots and couriers transporting parcels are doing their absolute best to deliver your parcels as quickly as possible.
What is the situation at depots?
Fortunately, none of the Czech depots were flooded, including the depots in Ostrava and Šumperk which are located in the highly affected areas. All equipment, employees, and stored parcels are secure.
However, given the severity of the situation, particularly in some regions, it is necessary to assume that parcels coming from these locations might be delivered late.
What causes mentioned delays in parcel delivery?
Although our depots are currently operational and running without restrictions (apart from temporary weekend power outages which have been restored), Packeta is affected by the complicated traffic situation.
Some areas are currently cut off or very difficult to access, with new road closures being announced gradually. This makes it difficult for us to deliver parcels to certain pick-up points or specific home addresses.
We’ll do everything in our power to deliver all of them safely as soon as possible.
For end customers, parcel tracking is available here.
We are in contact with Zásilkovna pick-up points to collect up-to-date information on if (and approximately for how long) any of them will be closed. If a pick-up point is unavailable, we ask for your patience as many of them are located in the heavily affected areas and their owners might be in a very difficult situation at this time.
Current restrictions in Czechia
UPDATE Mednesday, 18 September, 4 PM:
- Several pick-up points located in areas that were hit the hardest remain closed. We are in contact with them, checking on the status of stored parcels.
- Some Z-BOXes were damaged by the floods and are unfortunately out of service. For both pick-up points and Z-BOXes affected by the weather events, we are trying to contact the recipients of the particular parcels to address the situation.
- The storage period of parcels stored at pick-up points or
Z-BOXes in affected areas is being extended or the parcels are being rerouted. - In some places, the traffic situation remains poor which may cause further delays in parcel delivery.
UPDATE Monday, 16 September, 4 PM: Most parcels within Packeta Home Delivery have been delivered, those in the most affected areas where first delivery attempts failed will be rerouted and attempted again. If the transport complications persist, the parcels will be deposited at pick-up points and the recipients will be notified.
UPDATE Monday, 16 September, 2 PM: The storage period of parcels waiting in Z-BOXes in highly affected regions such as Moravia, Silesia, Olomouc, Broumov and its vicinity will be extended automatically (for parcels placed in the Z-BOX yesterday and earlier). The recipients of these parcels will be notified.
UPDATE Monday, 16 September: Signal outages in areas that were hit the hardest (especially North Moravia) may complicate parcel pick-up and shipping via Z-BOXes. We recommend downloading the parcel data in advance to be prepared. If the Z-BOX has a keypad and the customer has the password for pick-up, their shipment can be collected even during an outage without any issues.
We apologize for the complications and believe our services will be running as you are used to shortly.
