Bulgaria: Currency change from 1 January 2026
Dear partners,
From January 1, 2026, the official currency in Bulgaria will be the euro. Do you deliver to this country with us? In this article, you will learn what this means for you and what changes you need to prepare for.
- The currency change will take place at midnight between December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.
- The official fixed exchange rate for currency conversion from January 1, 2026, has been set at 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN.
- During the first two weeks of the new year, recipients can choose whether they want to pay cash on delivery in leva or euros.
- Currency conversion will always be carried out using the fixed exchange rate mentioned above. However, from the New Year onwards, COD payouts will only be made in euros.
- Without providing an EUR account, it will not be possible to enter COD shipments into the system after the New Year. Likewise, without providing an EUR account, we will not be able to settle your COD payments for shipments that were in transit and will be delivered after this date.
- Shipments delivered by December 26, 2025, will be processed and closed in the system as usual, and COD payouts will still be made in BGN by December 29, 2025.
- At the end of the day on December 26, 2025, we will stop marking shipments as delivered in our system. Delivered shipments will then be updated in bulk on January 2, 2026. The reason is to ensure that all shipments after the last invoicing on December 29, 2025, are paid out in EUR. Shipments will continue to be delivered normally; only their system closure will be postponed.
Restriction on creating shipments to Bulgaria until the end of the year
Since this is a complex change in our system settings, we have decided to temporarily suspend the ability to create shipments for Bulgarian carriers. The service will be interrupted on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the afternoon. We will do everything possible to make shipments available again on Friday, January 2, 2026.
The suspension applies to the following carriers:
- BG Speedy HD (ID 4015)
- BG Speedy PP (ID 4017)
- BG Econt HD (ID 19469)
- BG Econt Box (ID 19470)
- BG Econt PP (ID 19471)
- BG Sameday HD (ID 26066)
- BG Sameday Box (ID 26067)
- BG Delivery to Address HD (ID 23603)
Creating shipments until the end of the year
For all shipments created this year, we recommend entering the amount in leva. If these shipments are delivered during the first two weeks of 2026, recipients can choose in which currency they want to pay the COD. The fixed exchange rate will be used for conversion. After this two-week transition period, payment in euros will be the only option for recipients.
Creating shipments in the new year
After the New Year, COD amounts must be entered in euros. Entering COD in leva will no longer be possible, and leva as a currency will be blocked in our system. You will need to adjust the currency you enter; otherwise, you will not be able to create shipments in our system.
Shipments created in 2025 can still be physically handed over to our network in 2026, even if the COD amount is in leva.
For those who want to prepare for the change earlier, we allow entering COD in euros already now. However, please note that the fixed exchange rate is not yet applicable, and currency conversion will follow our conditions: Currency conversion rules
Do you want COD in euros?
To submit shipments in EUR now, please contact your sales representative.
COD payouts
The last invoice in leva will be issued on December 29, 2025. After the New Year, all payouts will be made in euros, regardless of whether the amount collected from the recipient was in leva or euros. If the amount was collected in leva, it will be converted using the fixed exchange rate mentioned above.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Until when can I send orders in leva to your system?
Until the afternoon of December 30, 2025; after that, the service will be temporarily suspended due to necessary system changes.
Can I start sending shipments with values in EUR before January 1, 2026?
Yes, you can. To switch COD payouts to EUR, contact your sales representative, who will make this change in the system for you.
How will currency conversion work in this case?
Currency conversion will follow our General Terms and Conditions.
From when will I have to send orders with values in EUR?
After the service reopens, which will happen depending on the speed of system adjustments—on Friday, January 2, 2026. From this date, it will no longer be possible to submit shipments with values in BGN, and EUR will be required.
How will you handle orders entered in leva but delivered after the New Year?
All such shipments will be processed. For the first 14 days, Bulgaria has a transition period during which the recipient can still pay in BGN or already in EUR. If they choose euros, the amount entered in BGN will be converted to euros using the fixed exchange rate.
Will COD payouts start in EUR from January 1, 2026, even if they were entered in BGN and collected in BGN?
Yes, because leva as a currency will no longer exist.
We have already arranged with the bank to close our BGN account on December 30, 2025. When do we need to change the account?
The last invoicing for COD payouts in BGN in 2025 will take place on December 29, 2025. This means that during the last week of 2025, we will settle these final BGN obligations. The next COD payout will occur in 2026 in EUR. It will be sent to the EUR account you have entered in your user account. If you do not have an EUR account entered, you can add it now. If you currently do not have any EUR account, you can use your BGN account after the New Year (please check its validity with your bank). The only thing you need to do is update it as an EUR account.
All users who currently have COD payouts set in BGN will be switched to payouts in EUR.
If you wish to switch to payouts with currency conversion (in CZK), you can also make this change in your user account in the client section. We recommend making the change after the last invoicing in leva, i.e., after December 29, 2025.
Your sales representative will be happy to help you with account settings.
